Ideas for Your Trip to San Francisco

Hi everyone!  I am guest blogger for Lynn and recently got to cross San Francisco off of my bucket list.  I think it is one of the most beautiful cities in the US.  I visited San Fran in March of this year and would like to share with you a few of my “must see” spots.

Alcatraz

This place lived up to the hype!  It was creepy and cool all at the same time.  Bring your camera, the photo ops are limitless.   The inside looks just as it did 70 years ago and the views of the city from the island are beautiful!  I listened to the guided tour (on headphones) and got to learn the history of the prison.  Be sure to buy tickets in advance, Alcatraz Island Tours, as it does sell out!  You will love it.

Pier 39

Want to checkout some cute sea lions?  Go to Pier 39.  They are hilarious and very entertaining to watch.  I would suggest stopping by first thing in the morning, there will be way less people and you will get a great view of “the show”.  Beware, they are loud!

Hawk Hill

If you have a rental car, drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and hike up Hawk Hill.  Spectacular views!    This was at one time a fort for the United States and there are old bunkers built into the ground, so the history buff will love this spot.

So these were just a few of my favorite spots in San Fran.  The food, architecture and views are simply amazing.  I would also checkout Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street, Ghirardelli Chocolate (free samples, enough said) Boudin’s Bakery and Ferry Building Marketplace.  What are your favorite spots in this city?  I can’t wait to go back and explore even more!

Thanks for having me Lynn!

Enjoy  ~ Jamie

  1. Jamie, we agree you need to plan ahead on the Alcatraz tours. That site is a must see. It is hauntingly disturbing to tour. I imagine when it was occupied there was speculation about whether anyone could escape from there. My vote on Pier 39 is Scoma’s. http://www.scomas.com/. Did you check out China Town?
